Comparison of continuous wave and pulsed mode plasma polymerization of glycidol for storage‐stable coatings for biomolecule immobilization

Abstract Plasma polymers from glycidol vapors are of interest for direct covalent grafting molecules bearing amine or thiol groups. The question whether pulsed plasma operation might lead to a higher surface density epoxide groups and grafted is studied using the antifungal drug caspofungin. X‐ray photoelectron spectroscopy Time flight‐secondary ions mass spectrometry analysis followed by caspofungin revealed that both continuous wave plasmas led epoxides but with densities upon pulsing. Investigations into stability suggested polymer coatings were still able immobilize after 2 years storage, making them suitable applications where needs be done immediately before usage device.
